Jolene’s Interview with Lorenz during Ascension Blog Tour

A few months ago I was offered a chance of a lifetime and there was no way I was going to say no, my grandpa would often say, “Jolene when an opportunity of a lifetime appears, you need to grab onto it”, I did just that. My request to interview the creator, the don Corleone (if you will), the big boss of the Gates Legacy was approved and as I read the note that had just been delivered to me, I was to leave in the next couple of hours to join Mrs. Font in NYC….tickets and directions included.

My flight was quite uneventful. Well, except for that eerie feeling like I was being watched, but I shook that crazy feeling off and focused on what I was going to ask Mrs. Font.

“Casa Bella Restauranta, Little Italy….please and hurry I think I’m being followed,” I whispered to the taxi driver and in a New York minute we turned onto Mulberry Street and stopped right in front of the restaurant. As I handed the man a fifty he shooed my hand away, “taken care of, now go”. Strange.

“Jolene, over here.” Lorenz waved me over to her table. “Chanti, Zin and a basket of bread to start?” she asked.

“That sounds wonderful, Lorenz thank you so much for this amazing opportunity.” I made myself comfortable and took a sip of wine from the glass that was awaiting me.

“How was your flight?”

“Ohhh it was fine, a little strange …there was a man on the plane that kept staring at me and then he followed me until I got into the taxi. Handsome but dangerous….but enough of that, let’s start the interview”

What was the hardest part of writing Ascension? Is there a type of scene that’s harder for you to write than others?

*Coughing* There is a scene that I can’t divulge yet until most have read the book so I’m afraid I can’t talk about it until a few months from now. Just for the record, it is probably the toughest call I had to make as an author.

Where do you get your ideas for your books? (Myths, legends)

There is no one particular trigger that gives me ideas about the next story I’m going to write. It differs from time to time. It can be a picture or it can come from a conversation totally unrelated to writing, but inspires a concept. It can also be a fantasy I had growing up and is just now presenting me with the opportunity to pen it.

Do your leading men come from any place in particular? Dreams-movies-your husband-past partners?

Not really. The main characters are just a figment of my imagination. The secondary ones are sometimes loosely based on someone I know in real life. A new character’s name I will be introducing in the fourth installment, Reckoning, is my lawyer’s namesake. I thought his last name is so cool that I had to use it. He gave me his blessing as long as I wrote him well.

Let’s look at Rohnert, the main guy in Ascension. He is a total surprise character that jumped on me while writing Hunted. I needed a teacher for Jordan and I came up with him out of the blue. His name is taken from one of the road names I usually see when driving up to Napa, California.

Which one of The Gates Legacy crew do you have a soft spot for? Why?

Hands-down, it is Harrow for me. From day one, I knew this guy is a winner. He has a complex personality and he is very loyal. He is not afraid to make a call even if this doesn’t bode well with other people’s opinion. He loves hard and is willing to lay down his life for others.

What are you currently working on now? Please say it’s another addition to The Gates Legacy series!

We are currently on the editing phase of Reckoning- the fourth book of the series. So yes, I’m very excited to inform you that the book is slated for release in June 2015.

Before I knew it three hours had gone by as well as, 2 bottles of wine, 3 baskets of warm delicious bread and a plate of penne con broccoli (my fav).

“I better get going, I don’t want to miss my flight….Thank you again for this! Oh by the way, what brought you to New York?” I asked.

“I had some things to take care of at the office, come on…. I’ll take you back to the airport…let’s go”. We climbed into the limo and I waited as she gave directions to the driver up front. After a few minutes of us zigzagging through the streets of NYC I realized we were headed in the opposite direction.

“Uhm, Lorenz….this isn’t the way to the airport.”

With a knowing smile she pulled out a blindfold from the side pocket and handed it to me. “I have a little surprise for you….you know the drill, put it on”.

“SHUT UP!” Shit, did I just say that out loud, of course I did, I heard chuckles coming from the driver’s seat. “But my flight? the furkids?”

“It has been rescheduled and they will be fed. I’ve arranged for you to interview more of The Gates Legacy crew.”

I couldn’t believe this, I was going to meet vampires….and not just any vampires, the coolest, most dangerous, kick ass vampires in existence! “I’m going to be meeting Rohn?” I whispered.

“I’d call him Rohnert, Shelly is a bit protective. Lorenz, I like her she’s a bit quirky”.

Suddenly, I hear someone clearing his throat so I peel the blindfold from my eyes. From what I remembered there were only two of us in the backseat, but it was dark and I’d been drinking.

A ginormous looking man with dreadlocks grins at me. “You! You were on the plane.”

“Yes. I’m Tor.” Oh my god… I sit there speechless as Tor’s laughter filled the limo quickly, “Yes…now put the blindfold on young lady.” His commanding presence sent chills down my spine.

“Jolene, I had to make sure your safety was a priority, with Goran still unaccounted for I couldn’t risk him getting his hands on you.” Lorenz assured me.

Forty minutes later the limo stops as my nerves were getting the best of me. “Jolene, you will be fine. Wyndy made it out alive….come, you will do great!”

“Lorenz you made it!”

“Yes, I have. How are you Zo?”

Zo? I asked myself. Oh, the hot latino guy. Rohnert’s sidekick. I was getting so excited.

“It’s so good to see you Lorenz. Is this her?” a deep commanding voice asked. Shit, I wish I could take this blindfold off.

Lorenz laugh. “Yes, this is Jolene and she had no idea that she was going to meet you guys tonight so take it easy on her.”

“You’re no fun, Mrs. Font. Can she at least take her blindfold off?” The Spanish-accented voice asked.

“Not yet, take her into the training room the interview can be done there.” That had to be Harrow, the leader Tack Enterprises. Security was of the upmost importance.

The man I assume as Zo took my arm and ushered me into the other room. “Don’t mind him. He’s moody” he whispered.

Once the blindfold was removed I took in my surroundings, I couldn’t believe where I was. Get a grip Jolene….you can do this. No introductions were needed, I knew who everyone was and as I looked at Rohn I was mesmerized by his Adonis like appearance. “Jolene, you’re married…be professional, keep it cool,” I said to myself.

Rohn let out a little chuckle. Shit, I forgot he could read minds, damn. He gestured to the chair and I sat down. I looked him in the eye and I could tell he wanted to get the interview done right away. So I went ahead and took out my notes.

Rohnert, has Zo taught you how to salsa yet?

*laughing* I don’t have time. As you can see, I have my hands full with a pretty human doctor and a son.” He is practically beaming.

Tell me something no one knows about you?

“If I tell you my secret, then I’ll have to kill you.”

He laughs when my eyes grew big. “You’re kidding, right?”

“Do I look like I’m kidding?”

I shook my head. “Want a different question?”

He nods.

“What relaxes you?”

“A long bath with Shelly.”

With the death of Demetrius who is the greatest threat to the vampire community?

“It has always been Goran.” He curses.

I won’t even repeat what he said for they are unprintable.

Will you train Malin to follow in your footsteps? Will Isagani play a part in his life?

Rohnert sighs. “Leading is his destiny. Even if I have anything to say about it, he is in line to lead our people soon. As for Isagani, I’m hoping the old man will come to this part of the globe and help my son like he did for me.

This next question is for all of you, in one word describe Mrs. Font:

Harrow, gave no thought at all “OCD”

Rohn, “She’s ruthless…you’ve read the reports”

Jordan got up and wrapped her arms around Lorenz “She’s my Soul-sister”

Cyrus “Evil”

Allison smacked Cyrus “Lorenz is Funny”

Zo stared right at Lorenz and in his seductive voice said “Mine”

“Damn” we said in unison.

Zo gets up and walks to a state of the art sound system and turns on some salsa music. It was obvious the interview was over and the fun was just about to begin.

Tor grabs Allison and takes her to the middle of the room. Harrow takes Jordan to the dance floor as Cyrus walks over to Isadora.

I continue watching with awe as each of them starts dancing with ease and grace. Then Rohn walks up to Lorenz, calls her by her nickname and asks if she would like to join him on the dance floor.

“Would you like to give it a shot?” I heard him say as I tried to act nonchalant, hoping he will ask me instead.

Lorenz smiles wickedly at the good-looking vampire. “I think you should dance with my friend, Jolene. She’s been dying to meet you.”

Rohnert diverts his attention to me. His smile was lazy with a hint of appreciation. “How about you and I give it a whirl, Madam?”

“Uhh, uhmm yeah sure…I’m sorry, Yes!” way to go Jolene of all moments you get nervous and stumble on your words. Relax.

Rohnert excuses himself after two songs after a call from Linda about little Malin. I watch him leave and kept grinning to myself. I’m totally oblivious to my environment until Zo clears his throat.

“I heard from Lorenz that you know how to salsa. Cuidado para mostrarme sus movimientos en la pista de baile?”

I look at the dark-haired hunk and gape. “Huh?”

“Thought you were a Latina?”

“Uhmmm I am, but I can’t speak a lick of Spanish but I sure can shake in on the dance floor”. He takes my hand and we lit the floor on fire with our moves.

While we are on the dance floor. ….he leans in, I can feel his lips close to my ear, heat radiated throughout my body, “so mamacita do you have any questions for me?” . . . “Yes, just one”

“Boxers or briefs?”

He twirls me around then smiles sweetly. “Commando,” he says then winks at me.

Hot damn!
