Well hi there! Welcome to my page! I’m glad you’re here!
I know I have an About page but how about a little bit more of my story?
I got hooked on reading early on but the first books I remember grabbing me were given to me for my birthday when I was in fourth grade. I had devoured Danielle Steel books by then and treasured my copies of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House on the Prairie series. My parents’ friend visited for my birthday and she gave me books that seriously changed my life. One of them I wouldn’t understand until much later in life and one of them changed me from that day going forward. Those books were Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach and The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. JLS I wouldn’t understand until I was in High School but Witch? Witch changed my entire world view. I read that book so many times the cover fell off! I’m terrified to find a copy and read it at this point in my life because I’m scared that it just won’t be the same. Crazy, I know but there it is. I also started thinking that I wanted to be an author. I wrote some of my first fan fiction, although I didn’t know what it was called at the time and certainly never published it anywhere. If I wasn’t an author, maybe I wanted to work as an editor or publisher. The possibilities were endless!
After that I devoured any book that had supernatural themes. My first vampire books were LJ Smith’s The Vampire Diaries series followed quickly by Anne Rice. I read anything and everything I could get my hands on. I developed a taste for Harlequin Romance Novels. Once I got older, I delved into books that my husband lovingly refers to as my vampire porn – The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward. Of course Twilight was eventually released and then The Vampire Diaries became a TV series….and here we are.
But not quite.
While I was doing all that reading, I did a fair bit of writing. I married my high school sweetheart. Had a couple kids, got a job working in upper management in a market research firm, moved across the country a couple times…..and we’re getting closer.
Right before I found out I was pregnant with my oldest child, New Moon was being released into movie theaters. I lived in Hollywood. Wanna guess where I was the night they had the Hollywood premiere? Yea….. I was pressed into the crush of girls trying to get THISCLOSE to THE Edward Cullen or THE Robert Pattinson….depends on who you ask. A couple friends had come to town from Denver and one of them camped out so that we could get in line to get autographs as celebrities walked into the premiere. She introduced me to the magical world of Twilight fan fiction. You could say it was all downhill from there….
As I followed fan fiction, a few authors started getting publishing deals. So of course, I cheered them on and was first in line to buy any of their books. Support indie authors!! From there I joined street teams and flooded my Facebook with posts encouraging friends and family to buy these books.
In the last couple weeks, I’ve done some of those things that fourth grade me wanted to do. Teaming up with my incredibly talented husband, we’ve just hit publish on his first novel! Expect to find lots of posts about THAT road! Yeesh! It ended up being a lot more work than I expected, that’s for sure!
Looking forward to sharing all the things I love, hate and learn with you!
